PURPOSE: An image sensor for suppressing image distortion is provided to improve picture quality by suppressing the distortion in an output image of an image sensor. CONSTITUTION: While a charge storage time is controlled to the first frame period, a vertical scan circuit(12) sequentially selects and scans a plurality of row select lines within the first vertical scan period. Even while the charge storage time is controlled to the second frame period which is longer than the first frame period, the vertical scan circuit(12) sequentially selects and scans the plurality of row select lines within the first vertical scan period. Even when an integration period in a pixel is prolonged by controlling the frame period into the second frame period when the image of an image pickup target becomes dark, a vertical scan speed is equal to a speed during the first frame period, so that the deviation of the integration period does not become large between an upper end and a lower end of the image.
