<p>PURPOSE: To smoothly reproduce picture data at a variable speed in an MPEG (moving picture experts group) system. CONSTITUTION: In the picture data reproduction method for reproducing recorded picture data on a recording medium by the MPEG system, it is provided with a temporary storage step for temporarily storing picture data grouped by GOP (group of pictures) the head of which starts with I picture in a stream buffer, a decoding step for successively reading and decoding the picture data temporarily stored in the stream buffer from the previous picture at the time of FORWARD reproduction and a data replenishment step for replenishing the picture data acquired from the recording medium to the stream buffer and in the data replenishment step, prescribed quantity of picture data from the head of the GOP including the remaining N-th picture data is replenished when the picture data temporarily stored in the stream buffer is read in the decoding step and the remaining becomes N frame.</p> |
