PURPOSE: To provide an article transfer method using a self-traveling carriage capable of transferring an article without crosswise moving an article supporting body which is a final working part, and the self-traveling carriage. CONSTITUTION: The self-traveling carriage 11 free to travel on a specified route 2 is furnished with a moving body 31 free to move in the longitudinal direction A against a car body 12, a revolving body 41 free to revolve around a vertical shaft center 44 against the moving body 31 and the article supporting body 51 positioned on the revolving body 41. The head end side of the article supporting body 51 is directed to the side of an article handling part 5 by initially revolving the revolving body 41 around the vertical shaft center 44 in a state of stopping the self-traveling carriage 11 alongside the article handling part 5. Consecutively, the article supporting body 51 is directed to the article handling part 5 by making it abeam by moving the moving body 31 while revolving the revolving body 41. The article W is stored on the car body 12 by reversely actuating the article supporting body 51 after delivering the article W between the article supporting body 51 and the article handling part 5.
