PURPOSE: A method of selecting an implicit block weight for a B-picture predictive signal is provided to appropriately select the implicit block weight to improve coding efficiency. CONSTITUTION: (1/2, 1/2, 0) is elected as an implicit block weight to calculate a predictive signal when a macro-block has two motion vectors in different directions in a bi-predictive mode. In the case that the macro-block has two motion vectors in the same direction and display orders of reference pictures to which the motion vectors refer are different from each other, (2, -1, 0) is selected as the implicit block weight to calculate the predictive signal. When the macro-block has two motion vectors in the same direction and the display orders of the reference pictures to which the motion vectors refer are identical to each other, (1/2, 1/2, 0) is selected as the implicit block weight to calculate the predictive signal. |
