PURPOSE: An apparatus for forming a groove on a lumber is provided to form a groove on a lumber within a short time without damaging the lumber and conduct a groove forming work quickly by having a lumber positioning unit in case of forming a groove at a specific position. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus comprises: a groove forming cutter(10) having circular side cutter portions with a saw-tooth located at both opposite sides and being located between the side cutter portions so as to allow a front cutter portion with a blade to chop a lumber; a table(20) on which a lumber is located; a cutter rotating unit(30) rotating the groove forming cutter(10); and a cutter moving unit(40) moving the groove forming cutter(10) forward and backward in the direction of the lumber located on the table(20).
