A dentifrice composition comprises zinc citrate, a buffer system, an abrasive; and an oral vehicle. The dentifrice composition has a pH from 3.0 to 5.5. The zinc citrate is in an amount sufficient to provide at least 2000 ppm of zinc ion and the amount of zinc ion that is bioavailable is at least 1000 ppm.
