A method for applying a wood preserving compound to wooden poles (as shown in fig. 1-3), including the steps of dispensing the compound (5) onto one side of two portions of a flexible sheet carrier (4) of suitable length to overlap with one another (6 and 7) when wrapped around the pole (2) is disclosed. The flexible sheets may be a paper such as plasticised brown paper, and are wrapped pole in the area to be preserved forming a continuous band around the pole with the carrier between the sheets and the pole (see fig. 2). Kits and dispensing devises useful in such methods are also disclosed. Such methods are particularly suitable to protect the underground portion of poles, such as power poles and posts.
