The cooling system has water inputs (30,40) each fitted with an auto-cleaning tangential filter. The first input (30) is connected to a first input connection (31,32), outputting into a first internal channel (34) of the motors (10) stator (10S) cooling casing (11S) connected to a pump via the first channel link (36). The system has an air/water exchange space (33) in which passes at least one of the input connections (31,32). Cooling system for an immersed external ship propulsion unit which includes: (a) a nacelle (20) suspended or laterally fixed to ships hull; an electric propulsion motor (10), placed in a nacelle (20); a propeller (10) mounted on a substantially horizontal shaft (2), driven by the motor; a pump integrated in the propeller hub (7), with parts (36,44) connecting to internal channels (34,43) in cooling casings (11S,11R) of the motor. The internal channels are linked to water inputs (30,40) via inputs links (31,41).
