A method for producing transgenic plants with increased seed yield under stress relative to an untransformed but otherwise isogenic plant under stress comprises stably transforming plant host cells with a genetic construct comprising a promoter preferentially directing temporal and/or spatial gene expression in developing plant seed operably linked to a cytokinin modulating gene the n culturing the transformed cells and regenerating and recovering transgenic plants from the transformed cells.
