A fastener (12) assembly for joining a first element (13) such as a circuit board to a second element such as a casing includes a first component (19) which has a pin (20) and a second component (24) which includes a cavity (28 ) for receiving at least part of the pin (20). Either the first component or t he second component is made of a material adapted to change from a first shape to second shape at a particular temperature. The pin (19) of the first componen t is adapted to be locked into the cavity (28) of the second component when th e second shape is attained through interaction of the material with the cavity . The heating means such as resistors (14) for generating the particular temperature may be included in the first element.
