<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording medium using high quality pigment ink, its manufacturing method, a thermal transfer sheet, an ink jet recording apparatus, and a thermal transfer apparatus used in the manufacturing method, which pigment ink is excellent in image fade resistance, and is difficult to cause aged fading for a long time, and is excellent in glossy feeling, feeling, and texture, and does not cause uneven glossiness, and has high in printing density. <P>SOLUTION: An ink receiving layer containing porous inorganic particles is provided on a base material of the ink jet recording medium. An image is formed on the ink receiving layer using the pigment ink.
