<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine capable of preventing the worsening of an exhaust gas even when cylinders are partially stopped in an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device comprises a front exhaust manifold 24 and a rear exhaust manifold 26 respectively connected to a front bank 2 and a rear bank 4 of the engine 1, and the combustion in a group of cylinders belonging to the front bank 2 is stopped in accordance with an operating condition of the engine 1. The front exhaust manifold 24 and the rear exhaust manifold 26 are respectively provided with ternary catalysts 28, 30, and the ternary catalyst 28 at the front side has the exhaust gas purifying performance higher than that of the ternary catalyst 30 at the rear side. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
