PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dry image display apparatus of a type with flying particles in which the particles are sufficiently charged, the contrast is kept good for a long period of time and an image is stably obtained, and the particles for image display. SOLUTION: The particles are used for an image display apparatus having one or more kinds of particles sealed between substrates opposing to each other at least one of which is transparent and displaying an image by causing the particles to fly and move by Coulomb force or the like. In the image display apparatus, the initial contrast C<SB>1</SB>and the contrast C<SB>2</SB>after 10,000 times of operation show the relation of C<SB>2</SB>/C<SB>1</SB>≥0.8. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
