[Also in Divisions G2 and H1] In an apparatus for illuminating a document during scanning, particularly scanning a document in a xerographic apparatus (see Division G2-3) motors 82, 88 are included in a control circuit, Fig. 2, which includes a heat responsive element, e.g. a thermistor R T in contact with an area of one of the lamps (LMP), Fig. 3 (not shown). Motor (82) ,drives a blower (81) which supplies cooling air to the lamps. Motor 88, Fig. 2, driving blower 87 is energized through contacts 1CR-1 of a relay ICR energized under the control of thermistor R 1 to supply cooling air to the lamp LMP in operation. When the lamps are cool, heater element 85 associated with blower 81, Fig. 3 (not shown) is energized through contacts 1CR-2 to supply hot air to the lamps before scanning commences. During operation, with switch SW open, element 85 is deenergized, the energization of motor 88 being controlled by contacts 1CR-1 to supply cooling to maintain the lamps at a desired temperature appropriate to their maximum light output. |
