<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermotherapy apparatus which can selectively heat a cancer tumor site. <P>SOLUTION: A planar microwave antenna 1 is composed by forming a substrate 3 on a grounding electrode board 2 and further forming a conductive pattern 5 of the antenna 1 on the substrate 3. A micro-conductor 4 is connected to the conductive pattern 5 of the antenna 1. The planar antenna 1 transmits a microwave to the upper part of the conductive pattern 5. The planar microwave antenna 1 provided with the conductive pattern 5 is placed inside a catheter 6 and connected to a power source via the micro-conductor 4 and a coaxial wiring 7. Thereby the microwave is transmitted only in a single direction with directivity from the catheter 6. A heated area can be selected by using the strongly directive planar microwave antenna 1 and by using a mechanism which scans the direction of the planar antenna around the catheter axis. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
