PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital versatile disk reproducing apparatus and a recording medium reproducing apparatus capable of flexibly imposing a viewing limit only on a required minimum part depending on each user without losing the understanding of the users about contents of a story. SOLUTION: A viewing limit block setting section 111 sets a viewing limit block in a unit of cells being data reproduction units through user operations. A viewing limit setting section 112 sets a user whose viewing is limited and a method for reproduction imposed with the limit to the viewing limit block through user operations and generates viewing limit information indicative of the viewing limit block, the user whose viewing is limited and the method for reproduction imposed with the limit to store the information to a viewing limit information storage section 117. A reproduction control section 114 reads the viewing limit information set to the user discriminated by a user discrimination section 110 from the viewing limit information storage section 117 and instructs a decoding section 105 to perform reproduction control under the viewing limit on the basis of the read viewing limit information.
