PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device capable of acquiring image information with a fidelity to the size of a manuscript to be read at all times irrespective of a dispersion from device to device. SOLUTION: The image reading device is to read each manuscript p using an image reading means 1 while the manuscript P is transported by a transport roller 2, and performs such operations that a correction chart in which crosswise lines are drawn at a constant spacing in the image transporting direction is read and that the image magnification is determined from the ratio of the spacing of the read crosswise lines to the actual spacing, and from the obtained magnification, a transport roller driving motor 2 to drive the transport roller 2 is put in operation under control so that the transporting speed of the roller becomes the specified value.
