PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate correction of a heat history operational expression of a thermal head of a thermal printer when the type of the thermal head is changed, or when the thermal printer is required to carry out high-speed printing or printing with improved printing quality. SOLUTION: In the thermal printer, a software program 21 in which the thermal history operational expression is installed is incorporated in a software storage medium 20. A CPU 10 receives printing data via an interface section 70, and reads the software program 21 from the software storage medium 20, followed by executing a heat history operation for the printing data, to thereby create heat history data. Alternatively, the CPU 10 may first develop the software program 21 in a main storage medium 30 and read the same from the main storage medium 30, followed by executing the heat history operation. Then, the CPU 10 sends out the created heat history data to a data transfer circuit 42 which further transfers the received heat history data to the thermal head 50. In the thermal head 50, a heater is selectively driven according to the transferred heat history data, and therefore desired printing is carried out on recording paper. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
