A thermosetting adhesive for optical uses which gives a cured adhesive layer excellent in heat resistance and moisture resistance and highly transparent. It is a mixing type adhesive consisting mainly of a main ingredient and a hardener, and is characterized in that when heat-cured under film thickness conditions which enable the adhesive to perform its function, the adhesive gives a film having a visible light transmittance of 90% or higher. The main ingredient is characterized by comprising a silane-modified epoxy resin in which part or all of the active groups excluding the epoxy groups have been inactivated with a metal soap and a silane coupling agent has been bonded to at least one epoxy group. The hardener is characterized by comprising an amine compound or amide compound.
