Frames received on a first link of a channel are grouped or queued for later processing in a batch or batch mode. Power control instructions included wit h the frames are examined, and a history of predetermined length is kept. Fram es to be transmitted on a second link of the channel are also batched for later handling in batch. Power control bits are generated for the frames, based at least in part on the history kept, in a manner that effectuates a slowing of responding to the incoming power control instructions.
