STARTING DEVICE FOR OCCUPANT PROTECTION DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starting device for an occupant protection device that starts the protection device quickly by detecting a roll such as trip over.

SOLUTION: This starting device includes: an angular velocity sensor 21 for detecting a roll angular velocity of a vehicle; a relative angle calculating means 31 for calculating a roll relative angle of the vehicle based on the roll angular velocity; a roll determining means 33 for determining a roll of the vehicle when the roll angle velocity and the roll relative angle meet a predetermined threshold condition; a drive control means 34 for starting a curtain air bag 41 when the means 33 determines it as the roll of the vehicle; and a first and a second acceleration sensors 21 and 22 each for detecting the acceleration in the right or left direction of the vehicle. The device determines a crash status of the vehicle based on each acceleration detected by the sensors 21 and 22, and switches the threshold conditions used for determining the vehicle roll according to the crash status.
