PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the assembling property of a magnetic disk device and to set the thickness thereof to be small. SOLUTION: The movement of a head arm assembly is controlled by a motor for controlling a horizontal magnetic field. Specifically, the magnetic disk device is provided with a magnetic head, a slider for floating the magnetic head from a rotated magnetic disk, a suspension for supporting the slider, a positioning mechanism for positioning the magnetic head in a predetermined radial direction, and a mechanism for rotating the magnetic disk. The device is provided with a base constituting at least one surface of a casing, a shaft fixed to the base, a rotor rotated around the axis of the shaft, and a stator for rotating the rotor.
