摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent material for a vacuum ultraviolet ray excited light-emitting element having high luminance and provide the vacuum ultraviolet ray excited light-emitting element produced by using the fluorescent material. SOLUTION: The fluorescent material for the light-emitting element excited by vacuum ultraviolet ray is produced by adding an activation agent containing one or more elements selected from Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Mn to a compound expressed by general formula Mg<SB>a</SB>M<SP>1</SP><SB>1-a</SB>M<SP>2</SP><SB>2</SB>O<SB>4</SB>(M<SP>1</SP>is one or more elements selected from Ca, Sr and Ba; M<SP>2</SP>is one or more elements selected from Al and Ga; and (a) is a number larger than 0 and smaller than 1).
