PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston ring capable of preventing the leak of gas even when the slide surface of the piston ring abrades in a Stirling refrigerator or the like. SOLUTION: A pair of step cuts having a protruding part and a recessed part are provided in a part of the piston ring. The pair of step cuts are combined together by fitting the protruding part to the recessed part and the combination is mounted in the recessed groove of a piston. The protruding part 3 includes a vertical side face 3a and at least three planes 3b, 3c and 3d. The recessed part 4 includes a vertical side face 4a, and three planes 4b, 4c and 4d correspondingly to the protruding part 3. The central planes 3d and 4d of the planes are inclined surfaces. Further, the inclined surfaces 3d and 4d may respectively have continuous polyhedral structures. The inclined surfaces 3d and 4d may be respectively formed in arcuate surfaces or curved surfaces near the arcuate surfaces. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
