PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic tensioner suppressing the progress of abrasion of a spring support in the automatic tensioner comprising a swing arm rotatably supporting a pulley for winding around a belt, a support member swingably supporting the swing arm, a torsional coil spring energizing a swing resistance to the swing of the swing arm, and the spring support supporting the torsional coil spring. SOLUTION: The spring support 10 is provided with a recess part 10c1. The recess part 10c1 receives a coil wire 9c when the torsional coil spring 9 is contracted by the swing of the swing arm 4 in a form of its approximately accorded with the coil wire 9c.
