<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup technique capable of outputting a smooth moving image, while realizing a relatively high S/N ratio and high sensitivity over the whole image. <P>SOLUTION: The image pickup system has five frame memories for storing the frames which are successively obtained with an image pickup element. Before a person HM appears, five frames F1-F5 are stored in the respective frame memories in the order of an update history. When the newest frame in which the person HM appears is obtained, a differential operation with the just preceding image F5 is performed, and space low-pass filter processing is applied to the differential image to generate a smoothed difference image FD. The image FD is added to the respective frames F2-F5, and added images F2a-F5a are generated. These added images F2a-F5a and the newest frame F6 are summed to generate a summed image FS. In this way, the smooth moving image can be generated while realizing a relatively high S/N ratio and high sensitivity over the whole image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
