PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image defect caused by scattered toner during the transfer of a toner image to a transfer material from an intermediate transfer body, and to obtain satisfactory efficiency in the transfer of the toner image to the transfer material from the intermediate transfer body in a secondary transfer nip. SOLUTION: Among two or more roller members which stretch an intermediate transfer belt 8, first and second secondary-transfer opposite rollers 10a and 10b are disposed so as to be in pressure contact with a secondary transfer roller 13 via the intermediate transfer belt 8. A secondary transfer nip N is formed so that a portion of the intermediate transfer belt 8 which is stretched between the opposite rollers 10a and 10b is wrapped around the surface of the secondary transfer roller 13. This increases the degree of the adhesion of the toner image to the transfer material P on the intermediate transfer belt 8 in the secondary transfer nip N.
