PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enlarge a gap between a steel plate and sensors to a half or more of a detectable defect size. SOLUTION: The gap between the steel plate 3 and the eddy current detection sensors 1a, 1b is enlarged by disposing two probe coils 2 in parallel, generating repelling magnetic fields from two probe coils 2 to the steel plate 3 and extending a region of the magnetic fields acting on the steel plate.
