PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color display device that can suppress degradation of an organic EL layer due to moisture and a gas component generated from a color filter. SOLUTION: The organic EL color display device 11 comprises an organic EL element 13 formed on a surface of a substrate 12, and the color filter 14 formed opposite the substrate 12 via the organic EL element 13. The organic EL element 13 is laminated from a first electrode layer 15, the organic EL layer 16 and a second electrode layer 17 in this order on the substrate 12. The organic EL element 13 is coated with a passivation film 18 that blocks contact of the organic EL layer 16 with outside air. The second electrode layer 17 is formed from a transparent conductive material, and the side of the second electrode layer 17 or the side opposite to the substrate 12 is the direction of light emission. The color filter 14 is formed on the passivation film 18. The organic EL layer 16 comprises a white-luminescent layer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
