PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk drive in which a virtual drive for realizing a changer function is set simply. SOLUTION: When an optical disk 3 is inserted into this optical disk drive, a disk drive judges whether information is to be stored on a buffer 8, and when it is judged that the storing of information is to be performed, the device reads the entire information recorded on the optical disk 3 to store them in virtual CD areas 81 to 8n for every disk. In this case, one virtual drive is generated automatically to each of the virtual drive areas 81 to 8n. The host device 2 recognizes these virtual drives as a single set of a disk drive. Since the virtual drive is set only by inserting the optical disk 3, it becomes unnecessary for a user to prepare the virtual drive. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
