PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording device which can acquire pictures of a superior ink fixability, a short settling time, a high OD and a higher quality. SOLUTION: A recording head 101Bk for black ink and a recording head 101C for process liquid are arranged in a scanning direction of a carriage 107. When a record medium is a plain paper, recording is carried out so that the process liquid is applied on the black ink when the carriage 107 is entrained in the direction of an arrow X. When the record medium is a high-speed absorbency paper, recording is carried out so that the black ink is applied onto the process liquid when the carriage 107 is entrained in an opposite direction to the arrow X. An application sequential position of the black ink and the process liquid is changed according to record media, and therefore a color material of ink is prevented from sinking from a surface of the record medium by more than required.
