<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a square alkaline secondary battery with large capacity and high energy density prevented from the lowering of insertion capability of an electrode group into an outer case when manufacturing. <P>SOLUTION: The battery comprises an outer case 1 and an electrode group 2 housed together with alkaline electrolyte liquid, and the electrode group 2 is composed of two outermost negative electrode plates 6a, directly contacting a side wall of the outer case 1, inner negative electrode plates 6b located between the outermost negative electrode plates 6a, 6a, and positive electrode plates 5 arranged between the outermost negative electrode plates 6a and the inner negative electrode plates 6b through separators 7. The outermost negative electrode plate is filled with mixed nagative electrode compound 6<SB>2</SB>with a density smaller than the density of the mixed negative electrode compound 6<SB>2</SB>filled in the inner negative electrodes 6b. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
