PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital video reproducing apparatus for displaying captions matching the reproduction speed of the video. SOLUTION: A variable speed caption control section 7 analyzes the caption PES data outputted from a TS separator 2, according to a fast-forward reproduction instruction from a control section 6, reduces processing wait time, until a next caption is presented inversely proportional to the magnification of the fast-forward reproduction speed and makes it fast, in proportion to the magnification of a scroll speed according to the fast-forward speed, and inserts a control code CS, immediately before the display of the next caption for updating the caption PES data. Then, output is made to a TS multiplexer 3 for multiplexing with the other data, thus generating a transport/stream. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
