PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a running control system enhancing the controllability of follow-up control when starting and performing control agreeable with sense of a driver. SOLUTION: The running control system detects a preceding vehicle and controls an inter-vehicle distance from the vehicle. In the running control system, a ECU 2 sets target acceleration in a predetermined first period after starting to be higher than target acceleration in the other cases and sets a gain for feed-back controlling the acceleration to be lower than gains in the other cases.
