PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sun visor device for an automobile with a front header portion in good appearance with a sufficient head clearance. SOLUTION: On a supporting shaft 3 attached to the upper part of a front window with its axis in the cross direction of the automobile, a light shielding member 1 is supported passing through a cavity 5, which has a contour in a horizontally long, rectangular and thick plate form, which has the rectangular cavity 5 approximate to the contour in a thick portion, and which has a number of wavy recessed grooves 6 in the vertical face of the cavity 5 for engaging with the supporting shaft 3. A cutout opening portion is provided in a ceiling interior material attached to a roof panel at the upper part of the front window with a space portion for setting the light shielding member 1 in and out. The light shielding member 1 is pushed upward and slid when stored in the space portion, and it is pulled downward from the space portion and slid when positioned at a desired light shield place with the recessed grooves 6 engaging with the supporting shaft 3.
