PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more precisely ascertain an operation condition under which leak determination can be carried out. SOLUTION: This device for treating evaporating fuel is provided with a fuel tank, a canister, a second passage connecting the canister to an intake system of the internal combustion engine, a vent shut valve opening and closing an inlet port of the canister, a purge control valve provided in the second passage and a pressure sensor detecting inner pressure of the fuel tank. The device closes the vent shut valve and controls the purge control valve to get the fuel tank into negative pressure. Leak of the fuel tank is determined based on variation of the inner pressure of the fuel tank detected by the pressure sensor when the fuel tank is closed by closing the purge control valve after getting the fuel tank into negative pressure. The device computes a determination value of fuel consumption amount according to operation condition parameter when the internal combustion engine starts. And the device computes fuel consumption amount from start of the internal combustion engine and prohibits leak determination if the fuel consumption amount of the internal combustion engine is beyond the determination value.
