PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slide type rotary tiller which can absorb and relax loads acting on the side of a tilling portion. SOLUTION: This rotary tiller is characterized by projecting out support arms 12 on the right and left sides of a gear case 11, fixing a transmission case 13 on the outer end side of one of the support arms 12, fixing a side frame 14 on the outer end side of the other support arm 12, disposing the tilling portion 9 between the transmission case 13 and the lower portion of the side frame 14, forming the right and left support arms 12 in a state capable of being expanded in the lateral direction, making it possible to offset the tilling portion in the lateral direction, disposing a support frame 29 for connecting the transmission case 13 to the side frame 14, supporting the support frame 29 in a state capable of being laterally moved to the gear case 11, and disposing an impact-absorbing means 106 for absorbing and relaxing impact loads acting on the side of the tilling portion 9 between the support frame 29 and the gear case 11.
