The robot controller for controlling the operation of a robot based on an operation command delivered from a pendant (10) being operated by a teacher comprises a detector (8) for detecting the position of the teacher, a signal processing section (11) receiving a signal from the detector (8) and delivering the positional information of the teacher, and a limit speed selecting section (12) for selecting the operational speed of the robot based on the positional information, wherein the robot is controlled at an operational speed, selected at the limit speed selecting section (12) based on an operation command from the pendant (10), as a maximum speed.
