PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor capable of separating an image wherein a character / line drawing and a pattern photographing image are intermingled into the character / line image part and the pattern part with high separation performance at high speed according to the local property of the image. SOLUTION: A first attribute separation section 4 performs attribute separation by comparatively simple processing such as the discrimination of a pixel close to a black color to be a character / line image part. A second attribute separation section 5 uses comparatively sophisticated processing such as statistical processing to distinguish the character / line image part from other parts. A user uses an area designation section 2 to designate the area of an object of the sophisticated separate processing by the second attribute separation section 5 among image data received from an image data input section 1. A changeover section 3 shares and supplies the data in the area designated by the area designation section 2 to the second attribute separation section 5 and data of the other areas to the first attribute separation section 4 respectively among the received image data. Since the section 5 can separate the data which the first attribute separation section 4 can hardly separate, the image processor can obtain an excellent attribute separation result.
