PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide particles capable of producing a high molecular weight addition polymer by carrying out addition polymerization by using these particles together with a transition metal compound forming a single site catalyst, a support and a catalyst component for addition polymerization, and to provide a method for producing these particles and to provide a catalyst for addition polymerization by using these particles and to provide a method for producing the addition polymer by using the catalyst for addition polymerization. SOLUTION: These modified particles are obtained by bringing (a) M<SP>1</SP>L<SP>1</SP><SB>m</SB>into contact with (b) R<SP>1</SP><SB>t-1</SB>TH, (c) R<SP>2</SP><SB>t-2</SB>TH<SB>2</SB>and (d')M<SP>2</SP>L<SP>2</SP><SB>n</SB>, wherein M<SP>1</SP>is a metal atom of the group I, II, XII, XIV or XV; L<SP>1</SP>and L<SP>2</SP>are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a hydrocarbon group; m is a valence of M<SP>1</SP>; M<SP>2</SP>is a metal atom of the group I, II, XIV or XV; n is a valence of M<SP>2</SP>; R<SP>1</SP>is an electron-attracting group or a group containing the electron-attracting group; R<SP>2</SP>is a hydrocarbon group or a halogenated hydrocarbon group; T is a non-metallic atom of the group XV or XVI; t is a valence of T.
