<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon material showing a high hydrogen-storage capacity whose surface is covered with an alloy. <P>SOLUTION: The surface of the carbon material is covered with the alloy containing Pd and at least one metal chosen from among Ag, Mo, Ru, Cu, Ni and Co.
