摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve encoding efficiency in encoding of motion pictures, by enabling an inter-frame prediction mode of a skip macroblock to be established beside direct to utilize the fact that there exists correlation of picture contents between adjacent regions. <P>SOLUTION: The skip prediction mode judgment section 103 determines an inter-frame prediction mode in the case of defining the present region as a skip region according to a condition established in advance. A motion searching/encoding mode judgment section 102 searches motions between input pictures and reference pictures to determine prediction errors in a forward prediction modes, a backward prediction mode or a bidirectional prediction mode; then judges, by using the prediction errors, which prediction mode is to be used for encoding; and determines the motion vector to be encoded according to the judged prediction mode. Further, with regard to the prediction mode determined in the skip prediction mode judgment section 103, it is determined whether the motion vectors and the prediction errors are encoded or not. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p>
