The switch has an incoming optical fibre mechanically switched between one of several outgoing optical fibres (31-46), the incoming optical fibre fitted through a base plate (2) displaced forwards and backwards in 2 axial directions relative to a fixed holder (1), the outgoing optical fibres supported next to one another within a parallel counter-plate (3), independently displaced forwards and backwards within the holder. The latter has 4 stops (4,5,6,7) for both plates, the exact positioning of the incoming optical fibre with each outgoing optical fibre defined by a combination of the 4 possible positions for the base plate and the 4 possible positions for the counter-plate.
