The optical rotary transfer device has a fixed and a rotary part either on the same axis as or off-axis relative to the fixed part. Each part has at least one optical module that can be integrated or monolithically constructed with microsystem technology components. A data transfer path inside the device has a transmission medium based on laser light and part of the path is formed by an air gap.
