<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain the high stability of shading correction quality by carrying out shading correction. <P>SOLUTION: A shading correcting method includes a reference-data processing. In the processing, a reference white board 230 is read in a line partition by an image sensor 237 and reference data Dhi for correcting each image data of the same-line picture elements to data displaying the same gradation to the picture elements having the same density are generated and conserved in a line memory 258.
