PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a plasma display device capable of obtaining sufficient brightness of a display picture without deteriorating the quality of the picture even when an address period is shortened to furthermore improve the quality/accuracy of picture display, and a method for driving the plasma display device and a plasma display driving circuit. SOLUTION: In each scanning line of a 2nd discharge maintaining electrode 104, a scanning electrode driving circuit 21 outputs 1st potential in a period that electric charge is not written or maintained, outputs 2nd potential which is scanning pulses in a period for writing charge following the output of the 1st potential and outputs 3rd potential which is potential between the 1st potential and the 2nd potential and potential in a range in which discharge is not started even when the 3rd potential is superposed to an image signal pulse following to the output of the 2nd potential.
