PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the technology capable of detecting the failure of a heat accumulator comprising a heat storage container for storing a heating medium in a heat storage state. SOLUTION: In this heat accumulator comprising a heat storage container capable of storing a part of the heating medium in a circulating circuit including an internal combustion engine in the heat storage state, a temperature of the heating medium stored in the heat storage container is detected in advance when the heating medium is stored from the circulating circuit to the heat storage container, and the abnormality of the accumulator is determined when a rate of the temperature elevation of the heating medium in the circulating circuit in controlling the supply of the heating medium from the heat storage container to the circulating circuit, is higher than that corresponding to the temperature of the heating medium in storage.
