PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bucket elevator capable of maintaining the optimum tension at all times by automatically regulating the tension of a chain set over between an upper and a lower sprocket and working free of contact friction between the tooth part of each sprocket and link plates. SOLUTION: The bucket elevator of such a structure that pulverized/granular substance is conveyed from below to above by circulating buckets 7 installed on a chain 6 set over between the upper and lower sprockets, is configured so that a pair of arms 14 whose bases are put in shaft coupling rotatably with the two sides of a casing 1 are directly coupled with the rotary shaft 3 of the lower sprocket 5 and a downward pressing tendency is given to the rotary shaft 3 by weighing so as to keep the chain 6h at the optimum tension at all times, wherein the tooth part 23 of each sprocket 4/5 to mesh with the chain 6 is processed smoothly.
