PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the fuel economy and to prevent an engine from giving uncomfortable feeling to a driver. SOLUTION: This device comprises a stop condition formation-judging means 91, an engine stopping means 92, a vehicle motion prediction starting means 93 for judging whether the prediction start condition is satisfied or not, a start condition satisfaction judging means 94 for predicting the vehicle motion after the vehicle is started, when the prediction starting condition is satisfied, and judging whether an engine starting condition is satisfied or not, and an engine starting means 95 for starting the engine when the starting condition of the engine is satisfied. Here, the engine is not necessarily immediately started in the case when the immediate driving of the vehicle is unnecessary, even when the prediction starting condition is satisfied.
