METHOD FOR DRIVING PLASMA DISPLAY PANEL AND PICTURE DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that the whole panel emits light and contrast is reduced due to electric discharge generated when a priming pulse preceding a writing period and an erasing pulse following a retaining period are applied, error discharge is generated because a discharge margin is narrowed due to the narrow pitch of discharge cells for sophistication and the normal drive of all discharge cells on the panel is disabled. SOLUTION: Efficiency and contrast are remarkably improved and a PDO of extremely high picture quality is realized by suppressing light emission due to unnecessary discharge by using a step-like pulse waveform of at least two steps when an initializing pulse preceding a writing period and an erasing pulse following a retaining time are applied, suppressing the delay of discharge by using a step-like pulse of at least two steps for a writing pulse and a retaining pulse and suppressing defective writing.
